CONCEPT

In this artwork, you can arrange the motion of sounds by originally designed trackball type controllers which has connected to homogeneously arranged 64 speakers or less on the inner wall of the geodesic dome. Moreover, the lighting effects of LEDs prepared in each speakers can be operated as same as the sounds. Also by loading the preset programs, you can operate the effects which can’t be expressed only by trackballs.< SPACE MAESTRO > is the performance artwork that uses this peculiar sound system.

The maximum feature of this work is enabling the physical operation by matching the form of interface to the art space. Performer can correspond to the hourly changing sounds, and even enables the improvisation by this interface. Performance is very lucid from audiences by this simple structure.

Present sound hardware plays various contents of sounds similarly. In < SPACE MAESTRO > which has a simple and lucid structure, sounds will shown unlimitedly nimble. If the operation changes, it will sound absolutely different even in the same contents. I believe that only this kind of nimbleness can keep the potential of a further dynamism of the stereophony, and this work aims it to realize. < SPACE MAESTRO > is the performance to conduct the space itself with sounds.

SPACE MAESTRO CONTROLLER SYSTEM

SPECIFICATION

• SOUND & LIGHT TRACKBALL -
  These 2 trackballs are designed as palm size to keep physical and dynamic operation. Sounds and lights will move as the same as the ball moves. For example, if you roll the ball horizontally clockwise, sound (or light) will move as the same inside the dome.



• LED MONITOR -
  You can monitor the light effect by this hemisphere shaped LED panel attached to upper side of main controller.



• PROGRAM STARTER −
  This switch will load the light effect program.



• PROGRAM SELECTER −
  Switches for selecting light program (4 programs at maximum). These effects are useful for conducting impossible effects only by a trackball controller.
  (Ex. − Strobe, Randomly blinking, etc.)



• T.B.- PROGRAM SELECTER −
  Toggle type switch for selecting the use of trackball or program.



• LIGHT ALL SWITCH
  A switch for lighting all LED. Same effects are available on foot pedal. It will produce impact in performance.



• LIGHT ATTENUATOR −
  The fader for controlling brightness of LEDs. You can make the light effect more expressive.

VERSIONS

According to the form and size of the dome, you can change the arrangement and number of speakers with specification of controller. Also you can control the plural number of sound source individually. < SPACE MAESTRO > will change its feature by occasion.
